In 1974, he was recruited to the University of Missouri at Kansas City, where he continued teaching and researching physics until his retirement in 2014. After a fellowship at IBM, where he pioneered Monte Carlo simulations to understand solid state physics, he was appointed in 1971 as professor at Memorial University of Newfoundland, Canada. He was awarded a bachelor's degree of science from the University of Colorado in physics and master's and doctoral degrees in theoretical physics from the University of Minnesota. He graduated with highest honors from Regis High School in 1956. He was born May 30, 1938, in Omaha, Neb., and spent his youth in Denver, CO., where in 1952 he was the Colorado-Wyoming spelling champion and placed 11th at the National Spelling Bee. In 1990 he joined the Judge Advocate General Corps as a paralegal. In 1985, Jeff joined the United States Army Reserve as an infantryman. One of Jeff’s other great passions and devotions was to the military. His favorite artists were Jimmy Buffett, Bruce Springsteen, and Van Morrison who he saw an amazing 27 times all over the world. He also had a passion for snow skiing, playing with his second cousins, music, and going to concerts. Jeff was an avid Denver Broncos fan and had season tickets his entire life.
